PolyBuzz alternatives: 8 apps like PolyBuzz with fewer ads or better memory
The closest PolyBuzz alternative is Talkie, another free, ad-supported character app known for voice characters, with Talkie+ at $9.99 a month. Zeta and Character.AI have similar huge libraries and unlimited free chat. For adults, SpicyChat and Janitor AI offer more freedom, and Nomi and Kindroid fix PolyBuzz's short memory.
The alternatives
-
1.Talkie
Best for the most similar app, with better voice
Talkie works much like PolyBuzz: a free, ad-supported app full of user-made characters, with gems and collectible cards on top. A September 2026 head-to-head favored Talkie for voice calls and memory and called it the lower-risk pick for teens. It bans sexual content for everyone. Talkie+ costs $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year on the US App Store.
Talkie+ $9.99/mo or $49.99/yr. Talkie+ Pro $24.99/mo Visit Talkie -
2.Zeta
Best for a similar free library, with an iPhone app
Like PolyBuzz, Zeta is a free, ad-supported app of user-made characters and story plots, and it still has official iPhone and Android apps. The zeta pass costs $14.99 a month on the US App Store. It runs in Safe Mode by default and allows users from 13 with a guardian's consent, though Korean lawmakers questioned its filters in October 2026.

3.Character.AI
Best for a huge library with unlimited free chat
Unlimited free messaging, voice calls and image tools, and the strictest content rules here. It has its own ads and slow mode on the free plan; c.ai+ removes them for $9.99 a month. Under-18s can only browse and create, not chat, and the company entered a Chapter 11 sale on October 12, 2026.
c.ai+ $9.99/mo or $94.99/yr. (c.ai) lite $4.99/mo or $2.49/wk Visit Character.AI -
4.SpicyChat AI
Best for adults who want fewer filters and cheap ad-free chat
A very large community library with adult roleplay for verified adults, and a $5.95-a-month tier that removes ads and queues, a common PolyBuzz complaint. Memory runs from 4K on free to up to 32K on the $29.95 tier. iPhone users go through the browser, since Apple removed its app.
$5.95, $19.95 or $29.95 a month ($60, $199.95 or $299.95 a year) Read our SpicyChat AI review Visit SpicyChat AI -
5.Janitor AI
Best for free, uncapped chat for adults
Chat on Janitor's own model is unlimited and free, and janitor+ adds about five times the memory for $12.99 a month. Adults-only, text-only, with official iOS and Android apps that start in a filtered mode. Age checks apply only in Australia, Brazil and the UK.
Chat is free. janitor+ $12.99/mo or $99/yr Visit Janitor AI -
6.Nomi AI
Best for memory that lasts, on a free plan
PolyBuzz's FAQ admits it may forget older chats; Nomi is built to remember across weeks with automatic layered memory. The free plan gives 50 messages and 2 images a day with no end date, and the paid plan is $15.99 a month. Adults-only, with self-declared age.

7.Kindroid
Best for one detailed character with voice and video calls
Trade a giant library for one character you design yourself, with memory you can edit, voice calls and live video calls. Standard costs $13.99 a month on the web, and official apps run on both iPhone and Android, which matters now that PolyBuzz's iOS app is gone. The free option is a short preview.
Web: $13.99/mo, $37.99 per quarter or $139.99/yr. App stores: $15.99, $42.99 or $159.99 Read our Kindroid review Visit Kindroid -
8.Emochi
Best for anime characters on Android and the web
Emochi is the anime-focused option, with a free tier that includes daily voice messages and images with ads, and Plus at $9.99 a month. Its original iPhone app was removed in 2026, like PolyBuzz's, and the website now points iPhone users to EMOCHI World from another publisher. Reviewers report short memory and uneven filtering.

Why do people look for PolyBuzz alternatives?
Most complaints are about the system around the chat, not the characters. Reviewers and Trustpilot users cite frequent ads and “take a break” screens on the free tier, short memory unless you pay for higher tiers, Coins and Opals that make the real cost hard to predict, and an automatic filter that blurs even mild messages. Since around October 15, 2026, there is also no official iPhone app: PolyBuzz’s US App Store listing disappeared without explanation, and it was still missing on October 19.
| If you’re leaving because of | Look at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ads | SpicyChat, Character.AI c.ai+ | Paid tiers from $5.95 and $9.99 remove ads |
| Short memory | Nomi, Kindroid | Long-term memory is their core feature |
| The chat filter (and you’re 18+) | SpicyChat, Janitor AI | Both allow adult roleplay for adults |
| No iPhone app | Talkie, Zeta, Character.AI, Kindroid, Nomi | All have official iOS apps |
| You want something similar | Talkie, Zeta | Same free, ad-supported character-library format |
How do PolyBuzz alternatives compare on price?

Is Talkie better than PolyBuzz?
For voice and memory, yes; for free text and variety, no. AI Companion Guides’ September 2026 head-to-head found Talkie stronger on voice calls, polished characters and memory, and PolyBuzz stronger on unlimited free text, a huge niche library, character imports and less pressure to buy card draws. Talkie’s filter is stricter. A Harvard Business School paper found both apps used emotional tactics on users saying goodbye at almost the same rate, far above the other apps tested.
Which PolyBuzz alternative is safest for teens?
None is risk-free, and parent guides advise supervision for any of them. Character.AI blocks open-ended chat for under-18s and checks age with an estimation model and selfie fallback. Talkie allows users from 14 under its terms, but a 2026 news test found gaps in its Teenager Mode. SpicyChat, Janitor AI, Nomi and Kindroid are adults-only. Our Is Talkie AI safe? and Is Character.AI safe? guides have the detail.
How do you cancel PolyBuzz before switching?
Cancel where you paid, then wait for the period to end before deleting the account, since PolyBuzz only allows deletion once paid membership has expired. On iPhone, use Settings, your Apple ID, then Subscriptions; Apple keeps billing even though the app has left the store. On Android, use Google Play subscriptions. On the web, use Settings, then Help Center, or the “Refund & Unsubscribe” link on the membership page.
