What is Nomi AI?

Nomi AI is a companion chat app built around remembering you: your name, your history and the threads of past conversations. It is made by Glimpse.ai, Inc., a Maryland company based in Baltimore, which The Baltimore Banner reported in February 2026 had seven full-time staff and no outside funding. The iOS app launched in July 2023.

Reviewers describe setting a Nomi up as a friend, mentor or romantic partner. You can give it a backstory and chat one to one or in group chats with several Nomis. Nomi runs in any web browser and on iPhone. The terms limit it to adults, and every Nomi is also an adult character.

How much does Nomi AI cost?

Nomi’s paid plan, called Standard, costs $15.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter or $99.99 a year on the US App Store, read October 18, 2026. Nomi doesn’t publish a pricing page, but its own Replika comparison page lists the same Standard prices.

The App Store also lists a cheaper “Launch Plan” at $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year, but we couldn’t confirm what it includes or whether new users can buy it. Nomi says it has no lifetime plan. Web subscriptions bill in US dollars and, according to Nomi’s help wiki, can work out slightly cheaper than app-store prices.

Subscribers can also buy credits, from 40 for $4.99 to 1,800 for $99.99. Credits never expire and are only spent once your daily allowance runs out:

Do you have to pay for Nomi AI?

No. Nomi’s free plan has no end date and needs no card. It allows 50 messages a day, 2 images a day and messages up to 400 characters, per Nomi’s help wiki. Voice messages, voice calls, group chats and video need a subscription. How many Nomis a free account can keep isn’t stated officially; two published reviews say one.

A subscription raises the limits to messages of up to 800 characters and 40 images a day, and adds voice, video, up to 10 Nomis and up to 10 group chats.

How does Nomi AI’s memory work?

Nomi builds memory automatically in three layers: short-term for the current chat, medium-term for continuity across longer conversations, and long-term for important facts and shared history. You can add context through a written backstory and Mind Maps that link people, places and topics. Nomi’s own wiki cautions that memory doesn’t guarantee perfect recall on request.

Reviewers mostly agree it is the app’s strength. CompanionWise scores its memory highly, and RoboRhythms calls Nomi the strongest app it has reviewed for long-term continuity. Should I Even Try praises its editable memory files as unusually transparent, but reports recall fading after roughly 100 to 268 messages.

Does Nomi AI have voice chat?

Yes, on the paid plan only. Subscribers can send and receive voice messages, play any reply aloud, and start hands-free voice calls from the phone icon. You can also create a custom voice from a recording. Nomi says call replies aren’t instant, and CompanionWise lists laggy calls among its cons.

What do published reviews say about Nomi?

Reviewers consistently praise three things: memory that holds up over weeks, natural conversation with a stable personality, and a free plan you can actually use. Group chats with up to 10 Nomis also get credit.

The recurring criticisms:

• Recall still slips in very long chats (Should I Even Try).
• Images are inconsistent and video costs credits (CompanionWise, Should I Even Try).
• Refunds are hard to get. Trustpilot showed 2.4 out of 5 from 41 reviews on October 18, 2026, with complaints about unanswered refund emails and billing trouble.
• Age checks are self-declared, which CompanionWise marks down heavily on safety.

Is Nomi AI safe?

Nomi is a legitimate US company that says it doesn’t sell personal data, but it has more documented safety concerns than any other app we cover. The main points from its own pages and from reporting:

eSafety’s findings said Nomi relied on self-declared age, didn’t direct users to crisis support when self-harm was detected, and had no dedicated trust and safety staff. Nomi committed to stronger age checks in Australia. Under California’s SB 243 law, Nomi now shows California users a link to crisis resources when its AI detects self-harm language.

Why isn’t Nomi on Google Play?

Nomi’s Android app was removed from Google Play on September 25, 2026, returned on October 6, and was removed again on October 16, according to two app-tracking sites. Nomi’s CEO blamed problems with Google’s reviewers signing in and expected a return soon; Google hasn’t commented. Installed copies keep working, and Nomi tells Android users to subscribe or renew on its website.

How do you cancel Nomi AI?

You cancel on the platform where you subscribed, before the renewal date. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel. On the web, per Nomi’s cancellation policy:

1. Click your profile icon.
2. Open the Subscription tab.
3. Select Manage Subscription, then Cancel Subscription.

On iPhone, you can also cancel in Settings under your Apple ID, then Subscriptions. Access lasts until the end of the paid period, then the account drops to the free plan. Group chats, voice and video become read-only, while your Nomis and one-to-one chats stay.
