Emochi review: plans, Mochi, memory and the missing iPhone app
Emochi is a free, anime-leaning AI roleplay app from FlowGPT (now Kaon AI) on the web and Android, with Plus at $9.99 a month and Ultra at $16.99. Reviewers like its huge character library and usable free tier but report short memory and heavy ads, and its original iPhone app was removed in 2026.
The short version
Worth a look if
- You want a very large library of anime and story characters to browse and chat with for free.
- You use Android or a desktop browser, where the official app and site both still work.
- You want mature roleplay without paying first. Reviewers say it isn't locked behind a plan.
Skip it if
- You want one companion who remembers months of history. Reviewers measured memory at about 20 to 24 messages.
- You use an iPhone and want the official app. The original iOS app is gone, and the replacement listing comes from a different publisher.
- You care most about privacy. Chats are stored on its servers, may train its models in anonymized form, and no opt-out is described.

What is Emochi?
Emochi is an AI roleplay app where you chat with user-made characters, most of them anime, romance and fantasy personas, and build your own. It runs on the web at emochi.com and on Android, where Google Play lists it as “Emochi: Chat With Character” by FlowGPT, released January 16, 2024, with more than 10 million downloads and a 4.4-star rating from about 1.05 million reviews.
The company behind it, FlowGPT, now goes by Kaon AI. In July 2026 it announced $60 million in funding from B Capital and others, and said Emochi had more than 2 million daily users; that figure is the company’s own. Independent data backs the scale: Appfigures figures reported by Decrypt ranked Emochi the most-downloaded romantic AI companion app in the first half of 2026, with 7.9 million installs.
How much does Emochi cost?
Emochi Plus costs $9.99 a month and Ultra costs $16.99 a month, with lower effective rates on quarterly and yearly billing. Prices from the official plans page, read October 19, 2026:
| Plan | Monthly | Quarterly | Yearly | Key extras |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Not offered | Not offered | 2 chat models, ads |
| Plus | $9.99 | $26.99 | $99.99 (about $8.33 a month) | No ads, 4 premium models, 5x voice and image quotas |
| Ultra | $16.99 | $45.99 | $169.99 (about $14.16 a month) | 15x quotas, 2 flagship models, 2,000 Mochi a month |
Mochi is Emochi’s in-app currency, used for extras beyond your plan’s quotas such as more images, voice and premium-model use. The plans page values Ultra’s monthly 2,000 Mochi at $20. Mochi pack prices appear only after login; Google Play lists in-app items from $0.99 to $1,999.99.
Prices have risen. A February 2026 review listed Plus at $4.99 and Ultra at $8.99 a month, and we couldn’t confirm whether those were regular or introductory rates. The iPhone app EMOCHI World charges different prices again, for example $12.99 a month for Plus.
Is Emochi free?
Yes, Emochi is free to use with daily limits and ads. The free plan includes two chat models, 5 voice messages, 5 smart replies and 2 images a day, and one bot-written “Exclusive Moment.” Reviewers call the free tier generous for chatting but ad-heavy: AI Insights News counted an ad about every ten messages, and AI Companion Guides describes ads breaking into scenes between sessions.
How good is Emochi’s memory?
Emochi’s memory is short by reviewers’ measures. Its plans page describes a memory store with limited space, where older memories fade once it fills, and paid plans get “enhanced” context memory. DreamGen, AI Companion Guides and AI Insights News each found characters held details for roughly 20 to 24 messages before slipping, and AI Companion Guides says Ultra added only a few extra rounds. App-store reviews raise the same complaint.
Does Emochi allow adult content?
Emochi allows mature roleplay for adults, but its rules and its enforcement don’t line up. The website advertises “uncensored” chat and shows an 18+ notice for adult content, and Google Play rates the app Mature 17+ for sexual themes. Its terms of service, though, ban sexually explicit content in anything users submit, and say Emochi may filter or modify submissions with automated tools. Reviewers report mature roleplay works on free and paid plans, with inconsistent blocks and some ordinary bots drifting into suggestive territory.
What happened to the Emochi iPhone app?
Emochi’s original iPhone app is no longer in the App Store, and no one has said why. An availability tracker last saw “Emochi: Unlimited Chat with AI” on January 1, 2026 and recorded it missing from all 175 storefronts it tests by May 15; one review dates Apple’s removal to January 17. Neither Apple nor FlowGPT has published a reason.
The iPhone listing now called EMOCHI World comes from MESORA PTE. LTD., a different publisher, and launched March 25, 2026. Emochi’s homepage now links iPhone visitors to it, which suggests an official tie, but no Emochi page names Mesora or explains the relationship. A lookalike called “mochii - Emochi alternative” also appears in App Store searches and has nothing to do with FlowGPT. More detail is in our Is Emochi safe? guide.
What do published reviews say about Emochi?
Reviewers agree Emochi is a good place to browse and play short anime-style scenes, and a weak place for long relationships. AI Companion Guides praises the character library, model switching and free mature roleplay, but criticizes memory, flat voices and a checkbox age gate. AI Insights News likes the editing tools and in-chat images but reports freezes after updates and lost chat history. DreamGen, itself a roleplay app, calls Emochi a low-barrier entry to roleplay with thin character-building tools.
The recurring criticisms:
- Memory fades after about 20 to 24 messages (DreamGen, AI Companion Guides, AI Insights News).
- The free tier carries frequent ads (WeavAI, AI Insights News).
- Voice output sounds flat and uniform (DreamGen, AI Companion Guides).
- The iPhone situation is confusing, and features differ between the web and EMOCHI World (MyBF, RoboRhythms).
On Google Play, recent reviews praise the variety and short ads but report bots repeating themselves and ignoring input in recent months. No Trustpilot profile for emochi.com turned up.
Is Emochi safe and private?
Emochi is a real, funded company with no reported breach, but its privacy terms favor the company. Its privacy policy says chats and uploaded images are stored on its servers and that anonymized, aggregated user data may train its models, with no opt-out described. It says Emochi doesn’t sell personal data, but it uses advertising cookies, and the only encryption it mentions covers Google sign-in details. Age rules conflict across its own pages, from 13 or 16 in its legal documents to 18 on the website, and age is self-declared. No lawsuit or regulator action naming Emochi or FlowGPT turned up as of October 19, 2026.
How do you cancel Emochi?
You cancel through wherever you subscribed, and plans renew automatically until you do. The terms say app purchases are refunded only by the app store, and we couldn’t confirm a refund policy for web payments, which go through Stripe. For Google Play:
- Open the Play Store and tap your profile picture.
- Choose Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select Emochi and tap Cancel subscription.
For EMOCHI World or the old iPhone app, open iPhone Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. To delete your account and data, the privacy policy says to email support@flowgpt.com, with replies due within 45 days.

Frequently asked questions
- Is Emochi currently down?
- Emochi was not down on October 19, 2026: emochi.com was online and its Android app was live on Google Play, last updated October 14. What has gone is the original iPhone app, which no App Store storefront lists. For live outages, Emochi's feedback board and Discord are where users report problems.
- What is better than Emochi?
- It depends on what bothers you about Emochi. Published comparisons most often suggest Character.AI or Janitor AI for big character libraries, Nomi or Kindroid for stronger memory, and PolyBuzz or Talkie for a similar anime-style feel. Check each app's age rules and privacy policy before switching.
- What is Emochi World?
- EMOCHI World is an iPhone app published by MESORA PTE. LTD. since March 25, 2026, rated 18+ by Apple. Emochi's own homepage now links iPhone users to it, but no official page explains how Mesora relates to FlowGPT, and a September 2026 review says existing accounts and chats don't carry over.
