Is Emochi safe? The iPhone removal, EMOCHI World, age rules and privacy

Emochi is a legitimate app adults can use with care, but it isn't safe for teens. Its age check is self-declared, its own pages set minimums from 13 to 18, chats may train its models with no opt-out, and its original iPhone app vanished in 2026, replaced by EMOCHI World from a different publisher.

How we put this together: We read Emochi's terms of service (March 10, 2026), privacy policy (June 17, 2026), EULA, homepage and plans page on October 19, 2026, plus its Google Play listing and data label, the EMOCHI World App Store listing and its privacy policy (August 26, 2026), an App Store availability tracker, funding coverage, the FTC's companion-chatbot inquiry and five published reviews. We did not sign up or test the app.

Looking for an alternative to Emochi?

If Emochi isn't the right fit, these roleplay apps cover similar ground. We've researched each one from its official pages, the same way as this page. Their adult content settings are only for users 18 and over.

Who runs Emochi?

Emochi is run by FlowGPT, a US company at an Oakland, California address that now operates as Kaon AI. Its legal pages name the operator three ways (“Emochi, Co.” in the terms, “FlowGPT, Cp.” in the privacy policy and FlowGPT in the EULA), but all point to the same Oakland address and flowgpt.com email addresses, and Google Play lists FlowGPT as the developer. In July 2026 the company announced $60 million in funding from investors including B Capital. Disputes go to individual arbitration under California law, with a 30-day window to opt out.

What happened to the Emochi iPhone app?

Emochi’s original iPhone app was removed from the App Store in 2026, and no reason has been published. The app, “Emochi: Unlimited Chat with AI” from FlowGPT Co., was last seen available on January 1, 2026 by an App Store availability tracker, which found it missing from all 175 storefronts it tests by May 15. One review dates Apple’s removal to January 17. Its old US App Store page now returns an error.

Emochi kept running elsewhere. The Android app is live on Google Play, updated October 14, 2026, and the website works in any browser, including on iPhone. RoboRhythms describes the removal as a distribution problem rather than a shutdown.

Is EMOCHI World the official Emochi app?

Probably connected, but not proven. EMOCHI World: AI Story Chat is published by MESORA PTE. LTD., a different company from FlowGPT, and launched March 25, 2026. On October 19, 2026, Emochi’s own homepage carried an iPhone app banner and app-link settings that send iPhone users to the EMOCHI World listing, which suggests Emochi endorses it. Yet no Emochi page names Mesora, Mesora’s privacy policy doesn’t mention FlowGPT, and Emochi’s older emochi.ai page still links to the removed app.

Watch for lookalikes too. “mochii - Emochi alternative” shows up in App Store searches for Emochi and is from an unrelated developer.

What age do you have to be to use Emochi?

Emochi’s pages disagree, and none of them checks. The terms say under-16s may not register, the privacy policy says the service isn’t directed to children under 13, and the website’s own notice says it is meant for people 18 and older because it contains AI-generated adult content. Google Play rates it Mature 17+, while Apple rates EMOCHI World 18+ and Mesora’s policy calls it adults-only. Age is self-declared, and AI Companion Guides describes the gate as a checkbox.

Is Emochi safe for teens?

No. Emochi’s character library leans romantic and mature, reviewers say mature roleplay is available on the free plan, and its age gate is self-reported. Its public library includes characters that raise brand-safety concerns. Emochi offers no parental controls, so parents who want to block it need device-level tools such as Apple Screen Time or Google Family Link, plus a browser block on emochi.com, since the website works without an app.

What does Emochi do with your chats and data?

Emochi stores your chats and may use them, in anonymized and aggregated form, to train its models. What its privacy policy, terms and Google Play label say:

TopicWhat the official pages say
Data collectedEmail, username, password, chats, uploaded images, device identifiers, IP address, mobile network codes and payment records
AI trainingAnonymized and aggregated user data may train its models. No opt-out is described
Review of contentContent may be reviewed, filtered or modified by automated or AI tools. Human review of private chats isn’t addressed
Sale and adsSays it doesn’t sell personal data. Uses advertising cookies and shares device IDs for analytics
EncryptionEncrypted in transit, per Google Play. The policy mentions encryption only for Google sign-in details
DeletionEmail support@flowgpt.com. Replies within 45 days; no fixed retention periods

Google Play’s data label doesn’t list chat messages as collected, even though the privacy policy says chats are stored, so trust the policy over the label. Kaon AI also said in July 2026 that its new research arm would use user data to build new entertainment models. EMOCHI World’s own policy lets Mesora share data with advertising partners, and Apple’s label says it may track location, identifiers and usage across other companies’ apps.

Has Emochi faced regulators or lawsuits?

Not that we found. No lawsuit, regulator action or data breach naming Emochi, FlowGPT or Kaon AI turned up as of October 19, 2026, and Emochi was not among the seven companies in the FTC’s September 2025 inquiry into companion chatbots. The App Store removal remains unexplained.

Frequently asked questions

What happened to the Emochi app?
Emochi's original iPhone app disappeared from the App Store in 2026 and hasn't returned. A tracker last saw it on January 1, 2026 and found it missing from all 175 storefronts by May 15. No reason has been published. The Android app and emochi.com still work, and Emochi's homepage now points iPhone users to EMOCHI World.
Can Emochi AI see your chats?
Yes, in the sense that Emochi stores them. Its privacy policy says chats and uploaded images are kept on its servers and that anonymized, aggregated user data may train its models. Its terms let it review content with automated tools. No official page says whether staff read private chats, and it makes no end-to-end encryption claim.
Does Emochi have no filter?
No, Emochi has a filter, but a loose and uneven one. The website advertises uncensored chat and reviewers say mature roleplay works for adults, yet the terms ban sexually explicit uploads and content exploiting minors. Users report surprise blocks on mild scenes and ordinary characters drifting into suggestive ones.
What is the safest AI chatbot to use?
No companion chatbot is risk-free. Safer choices verify age properly, say how chats are encrypted, and let you opt out of model training. Emochi does none of those three, so if you use it, keep real names, locations and workplace details out of your chats and use a separate email address.
