Tipsy Chat review: gems, plans, Limitless mode and privacy

Tipsy Chat is an 18+ AI roleplay and story app from Singapore's Lightspeed Intelligence, with images, video and voice inside chats. It is free to download, but every message costs gems: the Standard plan is listed at $14.90 on the US App Store and gem packs run $1.49 to $199. Reviewers like the visuals and dislike the gem drain.

How we put this together: We read Tipsy Chat's terms of service (September 2, 2026), privacy policy (September 5, 2026), subscription FAQ, community guidelines, about page and official beginner guide on October 19, 2026, plus its US App Store and Google Play listings and reviews, a lookalike Google Play listing, revenue data reported by Decrypt and published reviews. We did not sign up or test the app.

Looking for an alternative to Tipsy Chat?

If Tipsy Chat isn't the right fit, these roleplay apps cover similar ground. We've researched each one from its official pages, the same way as this page. Their adult content settings are only for users 18 and over.

What is Tipsy Chat?

Tipsy Chat is an AI roleplay and storytelling app where you chat with user-made characters and turn the conversation into pictures, short videos and voice calls. Its store listings pitch “ScenePlay,” a cinematic story mode with choices, along with custom characters that have their own voices, backstories and unlockable diaries. It runs on the web at tipsy.chat, on iOS and on Android, in more than 20 languages.

The operator is Lightspeed Intelligence Pte. Ltd., a Singapore company. Its terms also name a Hong Kong distributor and a UK-registered payment company, and set California law with arbitration in Santa Clara County. The iOS app launched in August 2024. Appfigures data reported by Decrypt ranked it the second-highest-grossing romantic or adult companion app in the first half of 2026, at $15.2 million before store fees.

One oddity: on Google Play, the official app sits under a developer account called “krachdev” with an individual’s name and a Dallas address, not the Singapore company. The listing still links to tipsy.chat’s terms and uses a tipsy.chat support email.

How much does Tipsy Chat cost?

Tipsy Chat has no public price page; the clearest prices are the in-app purchases on the US App Store, read October 19, 2026:

ItemUS App Store price
500 gems (first purchase only)$1.49
Get a Taste$4.90
1,000 gems$5.90
2,000 gems$9.99
Standard plan$14.90
4,000 gems$19.90
8,000 gems$38.90
15,000 gems$69.90
50,000 gems$199.00

Higher tiers exist. The subscription FAQ mentions a “top tier” and says annual billing saves up to 50%, and a competitor’s 2025 review lists Premium and Deluxe plans with 15,000 and 30,000 gems a month. Couldn’t confirm their prices on an official page, though reviewers on both app stores mention paying about $45 for the premium tier. Google Play’s purchase range tops out at $649.99 per item.

Why do Tipsy Chat messages cost so much?

Every message spends gems, and the price per reply is not fixed. The FAQ says the cost depends on the AI model you pick, how long the chat has run, your memory limit and the length of the reply. Images and videos cost extra, and the official guide warns that auto-creating media for every message “consumes a large amount” of gems.

There are two kinds of gem. Blue gems come with a subscription, refresh monthly and expire if unused. Red gems are bought or earned and never expire, and the app spends blue gems first. A meter in the input box shows the estimated cost before you send, and a Gem History screen lists every charge.

Is Tipsy Chat free?

Yes, to download and to try. Free users get 3 suggested-reply “Inspirations,” 3 persona Role Cards and up to 1 million tokens of memory on supported models, and they earn red gems through daily check-ins, missions, events and Discord giveaways. Creators earn 3% of the gems others spend on their characters, paid in coins that convert to gems one for one. App Store reviewers disagree on whether free gems are enough: some say the cheapest model gets by, others say gems run out within a session.

Does Tipsy Chat allow adult content?

Yes, for adults, through a setting called “Limitless,” although its written rules say otherwise. The terms and community guidelines say Tipsy Chat doesn’t support pornographic content, yet the homepage has a Limitless toggle and the official guide explains how to enable it. The guide says Limitless works on the web, the iOS app and the Android APK from tipsy.chat, but not in the Google Play version, which is SFW only.

Everyone must be 18 or older, and all characters must be adults. Age is a self-declaration, with no verification method described. The App Store rates the app 18+ and Google Play rates it Mature 17+. Some App Store reviewers in 2026 report inconsistent filters and gems spent on replies the app refused.

What do published reviews say about Tipsy Chat?

Independent editorial coverage is thin, but the reviews that exist agree on the strengths and the cost. RoboRhythms calls Tipsy Chat a real company’s product rather than a scam and “safe enough” with conditions, while flagging its tangled legal setup and metered gem costs. DreamGen, which sells a competing app, praises the lively characters and large library but criticizes per-message gem costs and slow replies.

App store reviewers, rating it 4.6 out of 5 from about 12,700 US App Store ratings and 4.1 from about 54,500 Google Play reviews, report:

  • Characters that feel human and stay in personality, with deep character creation tools.
  • Frequent updates and developers who answer on Discord.
  • Gems that run out fast, with one reviewer burning a top-tier plan’s gems in two days.
  • Memory drift in long stories, repeated scenes and occasional outages that still cost gems.

Is Tipsy Chat safe and private?

Tipsy Chat is a legitimate app with no reported data breach or regulator action as of October 19, 2026, but its privacy terms are loose. The privacy policy says user data, including chat content, voice recordings and images, may train its AI models, and no opt-out is described. It names Google, Amazon Web Services, xAI, OpenAI and ElevenLabs as AI providers that process inputs.

The same policy promises end-to-end encrypted chats that staff can’t read, but the terms grant Tipsy a perpetual license to your content, and Google Play’s label lists only encryption in transit. Deleting your account removes chats and memories at once, though popular public characters you made can stay live. A separate Android app called “Tipsy AI: Fantasy Chats,” from an unrelated Ohio company, uses a similar name. Our Is Tipsy Chat safe? guide covers all of this in detail.

Are the Tipsy Chat paid collab emails real?

Tipsy Chat does pay influencers, but no one has confirmed that every invitation comes from the company. A Reddit r/Scams thread about a “PAID collab with Tipsy.chat” email ranks for searches on the app, and its top reply doubted it because the email didn’t come from a Tipsy Chat address. RoboRhythms reviewed the thread and read the emails as the company’s own high-volume template outreach, with no reported money lost. Modash lists 21 creators with sponsored Tipsy Chat posts, and the app’s Instagram profile gives market@tipsy.chat for collaborations. Check the sender’s domain, and never pay anything to join a paid collab.

How do you cancel Tipsy Chat?

You cancel through the store you paid with, at least 24 hours before renewal; deleting the app doesn’t stop billing. The steps from the subscription FAQ:

  1. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your Apple ID, then Subscriptions, choose Tipsy and tap Cancel Subscription.
  2. On Android, open the Google Play subscriptions page with the account you paid with, choose Tipsy and tap Cancel Subscription.
  3. Keep using your plan until the period ends; your blue gems then drop to zero, while red gems stay.

Apple decides App Store refunds. Google Play allows self-service refunds within 48 hours of purchase, after which you contact Tipsy support. The terms say completed purchases are otherwise generally non-refundable.

Frequently asked questions

What is Tipsy Chat used for?
Tipsy Chat is used for interactive roleplay and storytelling with AI characters. Users chat with characters from a shared library or build their own, play cinematic story scenes with choices, and turn messages into images, short videos and voice calls. Creators can also publish characters and earn a small share of the gems others spend on them.
Why is Tipsy Chat so expensive?
Because every message costs gems, even for subscribers. Tipsy Chat's FAQ says the price of a reply rises with the AI model, the length of the chat, your memory limit and reply length, and images and videos cost more. Monthly plan gems expire, so heavy users often top up with packs that run up to $199.
Does Tipsy Chat cost money?
Not to start. Tipsy Chat is free to download, and free users earn gems through daily check-ins, missions and events. Regular use usually costs money, though: the US App Store lists the Standard plan at $14.90, a smaller Get a Taste option at $4.90, and gem packs from $1.49 to $199.
Is Tipsy Chat real?
Yes. Tipsy Chat is a real app run by Lightspeed Intelligence Pte. Ltd. in Singapore, live on the App Store since August 2024. It has about 12,700 US App Store ratings and over 1 million Google Play downloads, and Appfigures data reported by Decrypt put its first-half 2026 gross revenue at $15.2 million.
