How much does the Character.AI subscription cost?

c.ai+ costs $9.99 a month or $94.99 a year in the US, and (c.ai) lite costs $4.99 a month or $2.49 a week. Character.AI has no public pricing page; these figures come from its help center and the US App Store, read October 18, 2026:

One subscription works across the web, iPhone and Android. Prices vary by country and tax. Google Play shows only a price range, so the Android price couldn’t be confirmed separately. Charm packs, an in-app currency, cost $0.99 to $49.99 on the App Store.

What does c.ai+ include?

c.ai+ removes the free plan’s friction and adds Character.AI’s full memory tools. The official comparison, from its help center:

Premium chat styles are Character.AI’s larger models, such as DeepSqueak. Facts captures details about you and the character automatically, and Lorebooks store world details that activate when mentioned.

What doesn’t the subscription change?

Paying changes speed, ads and memory, not content rules. Character.AI bans sexual content and nudity for every user, and no plan offers a filter switch. c.ai+ also doesn’t bypass age assurance: users flagged as under 18 still have to verify with a selfie, or ID as a fallback, to chat. Under-18 users are limited to a read-and-create “reading mode” whatever they pay.

Is Character.AI free without a subscription?

Yes. Messaging is unlimited on the free chat styles, and character creation is free. The trade-offs have grown: in April 2026 the company acknowledged adding more ads and usage limits for free users, and third-party trackers report full-screen mid-chat ads and a daily cap on regenerating replies from early 2026. No free trial of c.ai+ is described on its official pages.

Is c.ai+ worth it?

Reviewers mostly say c.ai+ is worth it only if the free plan’s ads, slow mode or caps get in your way daily. Companion Scout calls it fairly priced but worth it only when a perk fixes a real problem, and suggests paying monthly before committing to a year. eesel AI says $9.99 is fair for heavy users who regenerate often. Perspective AI, which sells a competing service, treats lite as a trial step.

Two cautions apply. Reviewers note that some perks have worked only in the mobile app, and that features have been removed even for subscribers. And the company’s future is uncertain (see below), which makes the yearly plan a bigger bet. At $9.99, c.ai+ is still cheaper than most companion apps; Kindroid’s web plan is $13.99 and Nomi’s is $15.99.

What does Character.AI’s bankruptcy mean for subscribers?

Subscriptions keep working for now. On October 12, 2026, Character Technologies, Inc. started a Chapter 11 process to sell the company under court supervision, with Disney as the opening $20 million bidder for a license to some of its intellectual property. The company says the service, paid subscriptions and billing continue unchanged and that it will warn subscribers before paid features change. It also says that if no workable buyer emerges, the platform will be wound down. The sale is expected to finish in late November or early December 2026. What would happen to prepaid yearly plans in a shutdown isn’t stated.

How do you cancel c.ai+ or lite?

Cancel through whichever store or site you paid. The steps, from Character.AI’s help center:

1. On iPhone, open Settings, your Apple ID, then Subscriptions, and cancel Character.AI.
2. On Android, open Google Play, Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
3. On the web, open Settings, then Account, then Manage, and cancel in the billing portal.

Access lasts until the end of the billing period, with no partial refunds. App-store refunds go through Apple or Google. Cancel before deleting your account.
